Short mat bowls can be played throughout the year, derived from outdoor bowls which is played on grass and therefore a seasonal, summer sport. The object of the game short mat bowls is for each player to deliver a wood (bowl) down the mat with the aim of remaining closer to the jack than those of their opponent’s. The skill in playing relies on the bias of the wood when bowling to a position where it either counts in the score or is used as a defender therefore blocking the route to the jack.
St. Tudy Short Mat Bowls Club was established in February 2006 when extensions to the Village Hall were completed. With guidance and the tuition from experienced players, members eventually competed in County and League matches also inter-club “friendly” games for which Club colours and logo were required and selected from designs created by a Member, as shown here, together with pictures of annual trophies and the layout of the Hall ready for play when we meet every Tuesday at 6.30pm.
New members are always given a warm welcome – why not come along, enjoy an evening of gentle exercise of mind and body? The first two sessions are free – all we ask is that flat, smooth soled shoes are worn, slippers would be fine, all other equipment is available initially.
