History
Film at the Hall came into being in 2019, initially as a ‘one off’ to show the Port Isaac based film – Fishermen’s Friends. The set up was creaky and amateur – we balanced a screen precariously on two tables, borrowed a Power Point projector from the Youth Club, connected it to a cheap DVD player and connected the whole ensemble with wandering wires to the two, tiny, tannoy style loudspeakers either side of the Village Hall stage.
The first audience enjoyed themselves and we have gradually improved the set up, making extensive use of grants and time during the Covid shutdown to install, in late 2020, a fully professional system with ceiling mounted projector, a 12 speaker ‘sound surround’ audio system with sub woofer (!) and an electrically controlled ceiling mounted screen that unfurls at the press on a button. The creation of the Village Hall bar allows the audience to enjoy the film in comfort and with a drink to hand.
The system also allows for live streaming of terrestrial TV programmes – the Rugby 6 Nations, Football World Cup, the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee being just a few shown in 2022.
We have joined forces with Cfylm – a part of Cornwall’s Carn to Cove arts scheme for rural communities. This gives us access to low cost licenses to show films and an on-line ticketing portal.
Details
Timing: Films are shown every month, except July, August and December – usually on the last Friday of the month with doors opening at 6.45 and the show starting at 7.30 with a short interval to replenish drinks.
Prices: Annual membership of Cfylm costs £6.00 and includes access to your first film show, Thereafter, tickets are £5.00 a head.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or online via Ticket Source.
A number of villagers have qualified to operate the equipment and we are always keen to have more volunteers to join the team to allow flexibility for holidays and absences.
Previous films shown include: The Rocky Horror Show, Casablanca, Downton Abbey, Dreamhorse, Mamma Mia, Saving Grace, The Father, The Good Liar, The Greatest Showman, The King’s Speech and No Time to Die.
